June 30 — BEING FOR THE BENEFIT OF MR. KITE, The Beatles (1967)

IMG_1920If there was an award for “Quirkiest Small Town in Oklahoma,” Pauls Valley would surely be a nominee.

It’s Ground Zero for “Okie Noodling,” Brad Beesley’s award-winning documentary about fishing by hand for catfish.

It’s home to the Toy & Action Figure Museum, the creation of Kevin Stark — artist, glam rocker, toy and comic book collector, and pied piper for town creatives.

And tonight we made the trek for Fifth Friday, the quarterly art walk, featuring belly dancers, a mariachi band, and a flame thrower, all roaming the downtown brick-paved streets.

For a town with restaurants called Bob’s Pig Shop and Punkins, Pauls Valley sure knows how to fly its freak flag.
