We started playing DJ about halfway home from Omaha today, each of us taking turns deciding the next song. It lasted all the way home. Or at least until Luke fell asleep around Guthrie. (I think my brief foray into Harry Belafonte did him in.)
The set list included Richie Valens, Bob Marley, Sly and the Family Stone, the Ohio Players, DJ Dazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, Lyle Lovett, Prince and the theme song from “Lego Batman” — approximately sixteen times.
My favorite portion was a 1980s stretch with Lauren and me playing Talking Heads, the Church, the Rave-Ups, Midnight Oil, the Outfield, and this song by the Cure, which — to 17-year-old Lauren and 24-year-old me — never gets old.
