Lauren started taking painting classes four years ago, when we moved to Oklahoma City. She was already good, but with guidance, persistence and practice, she became better.
Tonight was the high point of Lauren’s brief career as an artist: the opening of her first show ever, at Woolaroc, on the Osage Prairie. It was an ideal venue for her work, which I’ve often described as “Andy Warhol meets the American Southwest.” The paintings, all thirty-two, looked terrific in the gallery.
“Mamma, I’m proud of you,” Luke told her. We all are.
“The painter stood before her work; She looked around everywhere; She saw the pictures and she painted them; She picked the colors from the air.”
