Oklahoma State’s baseball team won the Big 12 tournament today, a feat that two weeks ago seemed far-fetched.
It’s been a tough year for OSU. They came in with high expectations, having gone to the College World Series last year, and returning several key starters. But injuries wrecked them, and it seemed at times they would never gel. Going into the final weekend of the regular season, they risked not even making the eight-team tournament.
A rain-shortened series against OU required the Cowboys to sweep, which they did. They needed to win the conference tournament to qualify for the field of 64. And they ran the table, the first 8-seed ever to win the Big 12 tournament.
Today, watching them handle the pressure, and then the final out, the dogpile on the mound, the joy in their faces, the exhuberent crowd, the coach’s emotions — this was a day I’ll remember for a long time.
