Today our firm wrapped up six months of planning and presented the inaugural OKC Inclusion & Diversity Summit. It was a business function for us all, but really, it was a labor of love. Our state is in dire need of improvement in this area. We can’t call ourselves a pro-business state until we’re a more welcoming state.
For today, at least, we got a glimpse of what could be. Expert speakers from around the country made the case — economically, culturally, morally — for diversity programs in the workplace. And the audience seemed to eat it up.
It’s a simple notion, really, allowing people to be who they are. Treat people with respect. Be curious, be courteous, work hard. But be you.
“Now something meets boy, and something meets girl. They both look the same, they’re overjoyed in this world. Same hair, revolution. Unisex, evolution. Tomorrow who’s gonna fuss?”
