Donald Trump talks about putting people back to work. It’s certainly happening for protest singers. Fueled by Brexit, Trump and the shaky new world order, Australia’s Midnight Oil this weekend announced its first world tour in two decades. The Oils made their name in the 1980s with fierce, politically charged music addressing nuclear war, environmentalism and poverty, among a ton of other issues. I saw the band at an outdoor show in Dallas in the summer of 1988. To this day, it was one of the hottest, most intense shows I’ve ever seen. At 6-feet-5 singer Peter Garrett is an imposing figure. And with a career that has spanned music, law and politics, he’s definitely the man for the job. I’m glad Trump is putting him back to work.
