There’s no single thing that makes a city’s music scene thrive. At least that’s the conclusion we drew today. The fellow with whom I was having lunch, like me, would like to see the music community here flourish. It certainly helps to have a defined music district, a place where patrons can walk from venue to venue until they find what suits them. These days in New Orleans it’s Frenchmen Street. In Austin it’s Sixth Street, and New York has Greenwich Village. And Memphis, as always, has Beale Street.
