There’s a debate happening now in mainstream music circles about whether Beyoncé’s “Daddy Lessons” is a country song. (It’s not. At the most, it’s an urban cousin to bro-country.) Which leads to something ponder-worthy: What are the best country songs by non-country artists? My short list, off the top: “Cheatin'” by the Gin Blossoms; “Faraway Eyes” by The Rolling Stones; “Nashville Cats” by the Lovin’ Spoonful; and this, sung by Peter Criss, who turned 71 yesterday.
