November 8 — ELECTION DAY, Lyle Lovett (2003)

img_1323Election Day in America. This is the eighth election in which I’ve cast a ballot for president. I became eligible to vote upon turning 18 in 1981. But I don’t remember voting until after college, which means my first vote was for Michael Dukakis. In the ensuing general elections, I voted for Bill Clinton twice, Al Gore, John Kerry and Barack Obama, twice. And today, I was honored to stand in line for 75 minutes to vote for Hillary Clinton.
