My goodwill ambassador Charlie and I went to the Plaza tonight for live music, which is a nightly occurrence here in the summer. When the schedule was published earlier this year, I circled today’s date, as Santa Fe ex-pat Eilen Jewell was the featured performer. She was as good as I’d hoped, yet that wasn’t the high point. It was the vibe: Peaceful, warm, happy, and real. I’ve started paying attention more to the people here. They’re different than in most arts communities — more authentic, laid back, a bit older, very approachable. And while there certainly is a party scene to be found here, that’s not why people come. It’s for the spirit. Truly, Santa Fe is a feast for all the senses. Lauren and I plan to move here when we retire. Nights like tonight, I’m ready now.
