LOST IN THE NOISE

May 26 — IT’S OH SO QUIET, Betty Hutton (1951)

imageBefore the Internet, how did we figure out songs that got into our heads, but didn’t know where they came from?  (Answer: we hummed a few bars to whomever would listen.) Today I heard Bjork’s version of this song, and instantly recognized the sweet, childlike melody at the beginning. But from where? A play? A children’s movie I had seen with Luke? A quirky movie from long ago? Ah yes, there it is. From “Happy, Texas,” a cult film from 1999, with a soundtrack featuring Keb Mo, Allison Krauss, Emmylou Harris. And this. Thank you, Internet.
