May 14 — DARK DON’T HIDE IT, Magnolia Electric Co. (2005)

imageThere’s a profound sadness to Magnolia Electric Co.’s music, punctuated by the late Jason Molina’s hollow voice. “He used music to express dark concerns about the nature of life and death,” said Pitchfork. “He sounded like a man very far from home.” Since seeing them in Santa Fe about a decade ago, Magnolia’s music has gradually but surely pulled me in. It did so again while running in Denver, which led me to keep their music burning slowly all of today.
