March 29 — I GOTTA WOMAN, Elvis Presley (1956)

imageAccording to the Tulsa World, sixty years ago today, The Man Who Would Be King played a concert at the fairgrounds Pavilion to a sold-out audience that paid $1 a ticket. Elvis’s set list included “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Heartbreak Hotel,” and this cover of a Ray Charles song. Neither the Tulsa World nor the Tulsa Tribune ran full-bodied pictures of the King. “The first fainting was reported five minutes before the 7 o’clock show.”
