March 22 — DON’T COME HOME A-DRINKIN’ (WITH LOVIN’ ON YOUR MIND), Loretta Lynn (1967)

imageListening to Margo Price led me to one of her influences, Loretta Lynn. The comparisons between the two come about honestly. Both women were raised tough. They wrap their stories around around sharp lyrics and steel guitar. But here’s another, probably less-discussed similarity. If an early look at Ms. Price’s song titles is an indication, it seems both women have a proclivity for two-part song titles, with the second part bracketed in parentheses. Loretta Lynn has five on her Greatest Hits alone, which probably makes her Queen of Parenthetical Song Titles (But That’s Just a Guess).
