Even with a memorable show last night, the best memory may still be ahead. In March, Lyle Lovett and his college roommate Robert Earl Keen (who wrote and first recorded this song) will play an acoustic show together at the OKC Civic Center. Despite their long-time friendship and mutual admiration, the two have rarely played together. I’ve seen Lyle play songwriter-in-the-round shows with John Hiatt, Joe Ely and Guy Clark, and it’s long baffled me why he and Robert haven’t toured together. By attending last night’s show, we got a chance to pre-order, and landed fourth row seats today. These are two of my long-time favorites; they’re like old friends. Combined, I’ve seen them 25-30 times. But this is the one I’ll anticipate like no other.
