August 1 — SWEET DREAMS, Faron Young (1956)

img_1373For as much as I love the steel guitar, I’m surprised I didn’t know about Buddy Emmons (pictured) until he died this week. Emmons was widely regarded as the world’s foremost steel guitarist, inventive with his approach and literally changing the sound of country music. A Nashville recluse, he played with everyone from Ray Price and Ernest Tubb, to Roger Miller. The intro to this song makes for a good sample.
