August 19 — I’M GOING TO TOWN, Robert Earl Keen (1996)

IMG_1968Paste Magazine has posted “the 27 greatest live albums.” Sam Cooke’s “Live at Harlem Square” was at the top, and it’s a fine recording. Several of my favorites made the list — Kiss “Alive!,” Bill Evans’s “Sunday at the Village Vanguard,” Nirvana’s “Unplugged,” Johnny Cash’s “Live at Folsom Prison” — but one of my very favorites did not. Robert Earl Keen’s “No. 2 Live Diner,” recorded at Floore’s Country Store near San Antonio, catapulted me into a long love affair with Texas country.
