June 28 — THE GHOST OF TOM JOAD, Bruce Springsteen (1995)

imageWe spent about an hour this afternoon at the new Woody Guthrie Center in Tulsa. It’s impressive; they did Woody proud. As much as I’ve read, studied and learned about Woody, I’m still astounded at his prolificity. Songs, short stories, poems, journals, drawings, paintings, pottery. The guy was a machine.

The Center also included a section on the Dust Bowl, “Grapes of Wrath” and their connection to Woody’s music, as well as a photo exhibit of Bruce Springsteen, which makes this song appropriate for today.
