April 11 — WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD, KID, Butch Hancock (1994)

imageTonight we sat front-row for a solo performance by the founder of the Flatlanders. His songs and stories painted vivid pictures of southwest Texas sunsets, landscape and rivers. But a highlight was during the break, when Butch sat down and talked to Lauren and me. It was like he didn’t want to talk to anyone else. We talked about Buddhism, parenthood, Terlingua, black and white photography, journaling and traveling. That kind of intimacy is making the Blue Door one of my favorite venues.
