Today at the Fort Meyers Airport, I heard this 1940s era number. (Most of the songs played at the Fort Myers Airport are aimed at the World War II generation, it turns out.) I’m pretty sure it was Frank Sinatra’s version, but I find most of his work too over the top, too vivacious. So I ran across this obscure version from Billy Taylor, who was the house pianist at Birdland in New York in the early ’50s. With just piano, bass and brushes, this rendition goes down much easier.
